Check out one of Chicago's best drummers, Joel Spencer, with his quartet on Monday's at Pete Miller's in Evanston. Here's a quote about Joel and you can visit his website for more info - www.spencerdrums.com .
"... and then there's jazz drummer Joel Spencer, whose audacious energy level, swing, chops and authority ought to make a lot of better known drummers nervous. Since the untimely death of Tony Williams, there isn't another drummer in jazz who performs with as much control or flexibility. Spencer never stops conversing. He always seems to be daring his musicians to keep pace with his creativity."
The YouTube video features Joel Spencer accompanying the late Eddie Jefferson at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago.

Thursday, 25 October 2007
Check out some unique events Thursday at the Peter Jones Gallery and Velvet Lounge - and other events all weekend. Here's some info from the www.chicagocalling.org website -
During the 2nd Annual Chicago Calling Arts Festival, Chicago-based artists will showcase performances and projects that involve collaborations with artists living in other locations—here in the U.S. and in other countries worldwide. The collaborations between Chicago-based artists and those living elsewhere will be prepared, improvised, or a combination of both. For instance, a Chicago-based poet will be collaborating with a visual artist from Virginia, a Chicago-based ensemble will be collaborating with a musician from New York, and so on. Some of the performances will involve live feeds between Chicago and elsewhere.
